What a crazy last three weeks of work! 90 hour work weeks distracted me from Boston updates!
I didn't have much time to explore or eat as I was at the office mostly nonstop. But I tried to make it for it this last weekend.
Posts to come! For now, I'll leave you with this Boston Fire Truck.

Disco nap
I've been working nonstop. 'Round the clock. Not rest for the weary. You get the idea.
Hella Wicked's been taking a disco nap for the past few days. Things shall return to normal shortly.
In the meantime, enjoy this pic I snapped at the local karaoke/bowling alley/after work dive called Kings.

Patriot's Day
Yesterday was Patriot's Day.
Yesterday, I found out what Patriot's Day is.
It's the best day ever in Boston. PD officially commemorates the anniversary of the battles of Lexington and Concord - aka the first battles of the Revolutionary War. But, and this is important, unofficially, Patriot's Day marks the funnest Monday of the year.
The whole city shuts down and hosts the Boston Marathon (in it's 116th year which makes it's the world's oldest marathon). People line the streets to cheer runners on, or watch from above on roof decks. There's fun to be had for all. Yesterday was 88 degrees. Too hot for the runners - yikes! - but amazing for spectators.
It was a day of stoopin', we started and ended there, sunshine, meeting new people, taking in Boston.
I'm feeling awfully patriotic today.

Stoop brunch 'n mimosas. (This stoop is my favorite part of my apartment.)
Watch out! This guy hangs around Fenway.
We pedicabbed past this guy.
Roof with a view: Marathoners in 88 degree heat - yikes!

Dressed to the Neons
Well, I think spring is here.
The Sox opener is today. The Boston Marathon is on Monday.
People are ready to be OUT AND ABOUT and dressing accordingly.
Look at these great Bostonians: a friend from work pairs relaxed neutrals with a pop of neon yellow.
Neon to the max!
This nice Parisian man I stopped on the street was following the same spring cues.
Neutrals with color can be fun. Love his layering and glasses.
I love how both of them pair traditional structure with relaxed whimsy. Sarah's button up with the flowy maxi pair up perfectly. The Parisian's blazer with his casual scarf and colored pants are trés bien.
Well done today, Boston.

New England Brew
I'm a girl who appreciates a good beer. I'm hometown proud for New Belgium (let's here it for Fat Tire and Sunshine) and Odell (yea Easy Street). Nothing says NorCal like a good Anchor Steam. Yum.
So I'm having a fun time exploring local brews around New England.
This one came from our vending machine at work. I hear that nothing says New England like a good ol' Narragansett. Look at that label. Tastes good, too.
Cheers, New Endland!

View from work. Hello, Boston.

Flowers on the walk to work.
A great sign in my agency.

A Boston Walkabout
I had another great weekend in Boston.
My mom flew in from the Wild West so she could get a sense of where in the world her daughter has ended up. We had a fun time exploring a bit of Boston via foot and local fare. Winning combo.
We headed up to Top of the Hub Friday evening. This place is somewhat of a tourist trap. Read: the food's not great and is generally overpriced 'cause the view is fantastic. But that was a-okay for us, we were just there for the sights of the sprawling city and a glass of wine. Great way to take visitors so they can get a lay of the land. After that, it was off to my neighborhood joint, the Butcher Shop for wine, amazing brussel spouts and chicken with asparagus. YUM! (Anyone else think brussel sprouts are hot right now? they're everywhere!) Topping it all off was a bit of chocolate mousse. Perf.
Saturday we explored the Boston Public Garden (make way for ducklings!), the Common (the United State's oldest city park, it dates from 1634! What does that even mean?!) the Freedom Trail and the North End. We saw some old gravestones and crossed a lot of cobblestones. We refueled at Giacomo's Ristorante on Hanover Street. The meal deserves its own post - but for the time being, I'll tell you we waited an hour in line and then were in and out of our table in less than forty minutes, blissfully full, happy and content from amazing food and a bottle of wine.
We did Easter brunch at... surprise, Island Creek Oyster Bar. Love that place. The rest of the day we strolled around Newbury and just relaxed. Oh yea, and split a Strawberry Cupcake.
All in all, a great weekend. Good to have some QT with the mom and show off my new city. Can I call it yet that? My city? Maybe not yet... Let's give it some more time people.
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Thinking these will be the Top Siders I get. Metallic Snakeskin. Haute. Embrace the prep, right?
Here lies Mother Goose!
History: Mom's first iPhone picture on her first iPhone of Paul Revere's grave. #nobiggie
The Freedom Trail.
This is the kind of stuff that happens in Boston. Just Ben giving off electricity at the local pub.
A city o' spires and steeples.
This building is old. 1868! Spring is on its way to Boston. Can't wait!

Look what I found!!
Hold the phone!
Look what I found! A restaurant on Newbury Street with... gasp! Compostable cups and utensils, proper recycling containers and - the best part - pretty decent burritos! Way to go, Boloco!
Now, let's be clear, we're not talking Cancun burritos, but decent fancy-ish burritos. Think good rice, all natural meat products and fresh gauc 'n veggies. For right now, it's good enough for my burrito fix.
Woot! What a good Monday.

No Socks
I can't offer much in words tonight. Today was one of those 15 hour work days. Sleeeepy.
But what I can give you is this: spotted, today in Boston, this man. Wearing coral shorts, a baby blue button down, loafers and... No socks.
I'm expecting quite a few more of these sightings as the weather gets warmer.
But let's cut the guy some slack, he's doing a lot of heavy lifting for New England stereotypes. Bravo stranger! Bravo!

To Sweat It or Not to Sweat It
I've noticed a lot of things about Boston fashion.
In order to keep from making blanket statements about them (keeping in mind the city was deemed
the worst in the nation by GQ mag), I'll keep my observations for future posts, specific to their offense. Or fashion no, not ever, never ever offenses. (I'm building an extensive collection of photos of Lilly-Pulitzered, embroidered-everything, college sweatshirted, pleated khaki-coated Bostonians.
Ei yi yi.)
I digress.
The issue of this post: men in sweatpants. In public.
In bars.
In the mall (yes - SFers, I said mall. This is the world outside the bubble, 'member?).
On the street.
EVERYWHERE.
What compels a man to wear sweats?
Let's not get confused about the situation here. I like to be comfortable, too. And some days are for casual wear. And let's be honest, when it comes to casual/weekend (it's called weekend for a reason here, people) wear, women really are the winners here. We can throw on a pair of black leggings, a baggy sweater, scarf and ballet flats - top it off with a top knot - and we're golden.
Men who go for comfy in public, look like this:
Ey yi yi to the double power.
Men, don't sweat it. Don't put those on and walk out your front door. (Errr... don't go for the leggings, either). Throw on a soft pair of your favorite jeans. Your city (and the women of it) will thank you.
And maybe next year, Boston will climb a peg in the fashion world.

Monday Morning Stroll
Happy Monday, everyone.
It's a little grey in Boston - I'm yearning for some good ol' fashioned sunshine.
But here's hoping that spring is right around the corner! These Cherry Blossoms greet me every morning on my walk to work.
Spring, see ya soon.

What a Weeekend
Phew. That was fun.
The weekend was nonstop. It started with wine and cheese at the Top of the Hub and ended with Betty Draper (errr Francis?) shocking the world. Back away from the Bugles.
Annnnyways. Lots to share, some will be detailed in upcoming posts. The Hub has great views - it's a restaurant that sits 52 stories above the rest of Boston. On Saturday and Sunday, I spent a lot of time finishing unpacking and getting the room all settled (my workspace is finally coming together - having a desk again will ensure more frequent posts). Attended a dinner party in a South End loft. Hosted a brunch for my newfound Boston friends. Heck, I even experienced a power outage in Target, which I've concluded would be a great place to be at in an Apocalypse Now type of situation (tents, food, paper towels, Missoni, Michael Starks - everything you could ever need!). I tweeted as much as the panic amongst Target shoppers rose, and guess what?! Trend-hunter/blog NOTCOT RETWEETED ME. Wow (yea, fully aware I'm a huge nerd).
Sprinkle some sushi at Oishii and a glass of wine at the Beehive to the sound of a live jazz band, and I'd say I had a fairly full two days
Now I'm ready for a nap. But I guess a good nights sleep will have to do.
